Hyundai Tucson: do not rush to meet "by clothes", study it "by the mind" 02.02.2018 at 16:32 Updated: 02.02.2018 в 16:32 Roman Melnichenko Roman Melnichenko The Hyundai Tucson crossover is one of the most popular models of its segment in Ukraine. With him we continue the series of articles devoted to the powerful mid-range diesel crossovers. Let's evaluate the "Korean recipe" for creating such a car, along the way, comparing it in absentia with the already well-known French dish, from which this topic began. The Hyundai Tucson was once the company's first compact crossover. But today it is already a crossover half a class higher - at the junction of C-SUV and D-SUV. Sales of the current generation Hyundai Tucson started in Ukraine back in 2016, but the reason for the current material is a powerful 2.0 liter diesel engine (184 hp), which the test car is equipped with. The first generation Hyundai Tucson made its debut in 2004 - a compact crossover with a length of only 4.33 m.Its successor appeared in 2009 and received a double name: ix35 in E Hyundai Tucson 2017 Eco AWD Gray urope or Tucson in the USA. The current Hyundai Tucson debuted in 2015 - the third generation. Usually I try to set the general mood of the ride with the first phrase, and then tell the details. But not this time - the driving habits of the Hyundai Tucson are entirely made up of details. The car acquires wholeness and harmony only in the "SPORT" mode. In this case, Hyundai Tucson will delight you with a responsive engine that quickly reacts to pressing the gas pedal, is active at medium revs, provides dynamics much higher than the usual "150 horses" - I quite believe in the promised 184 hp. and 400 Nm. "Automatic" also works quickly and efficiently, switches smoothly and imperceptibly, you will not find fault. The steering wheel is filled with a small but pleasant weight; the suspension is tight and can only swing on large bumps. Suddenly, but in SPORT mode, the car reminds me of a SEAT Ateca: an asphalt crossover with an emphasis on trying dynamic drive. Although before the status of the best asphalt crossover - like the Peugeot 3008, Mazda CX-5, SEAT Ateca - the Hyundai Tucson model lacks such an item that cannot be measured, but you can feel: "driver involvement in the driving process." However, in any case: the behavior of Hyundai Tucson in "SPORT" mode when driving on asphalt is unexpectedly pleasant. It looks modern, smart, dynamic - and in SPORT mode it tries to drive like that. Low beam - LEDs; far - ordinary halogen; but there are cornering lights. 19 "wheels look cool, but require 45 profile tires: for real life, take the wheels more modest. The diesel engine makes noise during warm-up, but pulls well. It's a pity, but in normal driving mode, the whole picture falls apart. The engine reacts with laziness, the "automatic" changes gears emphatically soft and early - all to save fuel. The steering wheel also becomes light. It would be there to relax and slowly, comfortably roll on business. However, no - the suspension is still tight on small and medium bumps; and in this driving style, its "near-sportiness" becomes superfluous. But consider the point of the test car: this is the maximum version - only such modifications ride on 19-inch wheels with low-profile tires. And the vast majority of Hyundai Tucson are sold in simpler versions: 16-17-inch wheels and higher tires, which can significantly add to the ride comfort. As a result, we get a contrasting picture: if you want to drive quickly and dynamically - take the maximum version with a powerful diesel engine and constantly use the "SPORT" mode; if you just want a comfortable crossover for a leisurely ride, look towards simpler and more affordable modifications. In the cabin, the situation is more straightforward, regardless of versions. But there are questions about the TOP model. For example, the notorious "soft plastic": the entire front panel is made of this material; but its shape is such that in front of the driver there is a separate zone with a dashboard - and here they used hard plastic. There is not enough background lighting, decorative inserts in the cabin, interesting stitching on the seats ... I watch and drive a car for 1 million UAH. - but I don’t feel it, I don’t get the impression of an “expensive thing”, there is no feeling of “wow, TOP version”. But Koreans have already learned how to do this: remember the leather trim of the dashboard or the “stitching on the plastic” on other Hyundai-KIA models.
